CNC Machinist

 

Columbus Instruments is looking for a CNC Machinist to join our amazing team.  We are an OEM shop, not a job shop, with a comfortable climate-controlled environment.  We have a variety of projects, no weekend work, minimal overtime and we provide all required tools.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

This position will produce machined parts by programming, setting up and operating computer numerical control (CNC) machines. 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Programs mills and operates shop machinery including but not limited to, lathe, vertical mill, drill press, table saw, band saws, sanders, shear, punch press, box brake, spot welders and tig welder.
  • Produce parts from blueprints, sketches and rough ideas.
  • Modify existing parts.
  • Maintain general maintenance on your machine and equipment in your area. 
  • Follow all safety rules to prevent injury of others and yourself.

 

REQUIRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2+ years’ experience operating and programming CNC machinery.
  • Experience with CNC milling machine setup, operation and conversational programming required.
  • Must be able to read blueprints and use inspection tools.
  • Skilled in basic hand tools.
  • Specific experience with Hurco machines a plus.
  • Experience with manual mill and lathe operation a plus.
  • Experience in machining aluminum, stainless steel, PVC and polycarbonate a plus.
  • Experience in fabricating prototype models and sheet metal a plus.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job with or without reasonable accommodation.  While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.  The employee is frequently required to stand, sit, walk, use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.  This position requires pushing and pulling of objects and occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds.  This position requires visual acuity to read directions and prints and to inspect machine parts closely to ensure they meet specifications.  Hearing protection occasionally required.
